Sodapic Syrup
Introduction to Sodapic Syrup
Sodapic Syrup is used to relieve constipation. It's also used to clear the large bowel before undergoing a colonoscopy or surgery.
Sodium picosulfate, initially inactive, becomes effective through a process in the gut where it's transformed by gut bacteria into a compound. This transformed compound acts as a stimulant laxative, encouraging the movement of the intestines by enhancing peristalsis.
It has been linked to specific imbalances in electrolytes, like low levels of sodium (hyponatremia) and potassium (hypokalemia). To counteract dehydration and restore the proper balance of electrolytes, patients are often advised to consume significant quantities of clear fluids.
Patients prescribed it should adhere to their healthcare provider's recommendations regarding dosage and duration of treatment.
It is crucial to report any persistent symptoms or adverse effects promptly.
