Introduction to Omeparazole 20mg Capsule

Omeparazole 20mg Capsule is used to treat various stomach and digestive tract issues, such as duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, and moderate to severe reflux esophagitis.

Belonging to the proton pump inhibitor class, it works by reducing the production of stomach acid. This helps in the healing process of ulcers and eases symptoms related to reflux.

It's specifically helpful for individuals with duodenal ulcers (found in the first part of the small intestine) and gastric ulcers (in the stomach lining), which can cause discomfort and complications.

Patients prescribed this medication should follow their healthcare provider's advice regarding the correct dosage and how long to take it.

It's important to promptly inform your healthcare provider about any ongoing symptoms or any adverse effects experienced while using this medication.

Omeparazole may cause vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. When taken orally, vitamin B12 requires an acidic environment for its absorption from the stomach while Omeparazole causes a decrease in the gastric acid secretion. Omeparazole can cause osteoporosis (thinning of bones) as it decreases the calcium absorption leading to calcium deficiency. This leads to an increased risk of bone fractures on long-term use, like hip, wrist or spine fractures. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or if you are taking corticosteroids (these can increase the risk of osteoporosis) before starting your therapy. Consult your doctor on ways to prevent this. Your doctor may advise you calcium or vitamin D supplements to reduce the risk.

Patients with cardiac disease can take Omeparazole as prescribed by the doctor. However, Omeparazole can interact with certain drugs (e.g clopidogrel, digoxin) which might be used by a patient with an underlying cardiac disease. Patients taking Omeparazole and digoxin may need to be monitored for digoxin toxicity. Omeparazole decreases the activation of clopidogrel, thus reducing its effects. Patients taking these medicines together need to be monitored closely by a doctor.
