Introduction to Cadilose

Cadilose is a medication primarily used to treat constipation and certain liver conditions. It works by drawing water into the bowel, which helps soften stools and improve bowel movements. Additionally, it helps reduce ammonia levels in the blood, which is particularly beneficial for patients with liver disease.

Composition of Cadilose

Cadilose contains the active ingredient Lactulose, a type of sugar that is not absorbed by the body but works locally in the gut to achieve its effects.

Uses of Cadilose

  • Treats chronic or occasional constipation by softening stools.
  • Improves bowel movements.
  • Reduces ammonia levels in patients with liver disease.
  • Prevents or treats confusion, drowsiness, or coma caused by Hepatic Encephalopathy.

Side Effects of Cadilose

Common Side Effects:

  • Bloating
  • Gas
  • Abdominal cramping
  • Diarrhea with high doses

Serious Side Effects:

  • Severe dehydration
  • Electrolyte imbalance due to prolonged diarrhea
  • Worsened abdominal pain or bloating

Precautions of Cadilose

Cadilose should not be used in cases of severe or unknown bowel obstruction or in patients with a rare inherited disorder called galactosemia. It should be used with caution in patients with gastrointestinal issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or galactose intolerance. Prolonged use or high doses may cause dehydration and imbalances in sodium and potassium.

How to Take Cadilose

  • For constipation, the initial dose is 15-30 mL daily, with a maintenance dose of 10-20 mL daily, adjusted based on response.
  • For hepatic encephalopathy, the initial dose is 30-45 mL 3-4 times daily, adjusted to produce 2-3 soft stools daily.
  • Cadilose can be taken with or without food.

Conclusion of Cadilose

Cadilose is an effective medication for treating constipation and managing ammonia levels in patients with liver disease. While it is generally safe, it is important to be aware of potential side effects and take necessary precautions. Always follow your healthcare provider's instructions for dosage and administration.
